What we think of as coworking is starting to appear in corporate organizations in the form of Activity Based Work (ABW). ABW offices are “open offices” where no employees (including the CEO and other senior leaders) have a private office, and people work in different areas of the office depending on the activity they are engaged in at the time (quiet solo space, small team room, large open room, phone booth, etc). ABW means that hierarchies are undermined, as is the case in coworking spaces, because the ‘little people’ sit next to and have direct access to the ‘big people.’ Employees discuss ideas openly, collaborate more effectively, and as a result are much more engaged in their work. We are looking for a corporate partner interested in experimenting with ABW/Corporate Coworking. This is not just a challenge of shrinking the real estate footprint and lowering costs, it is equally about creating a ‘better place to work’ and increasing employee engagement.
